The Invitation, a new supernatural horror film starring Nathalie Emmanuel of Game of Thrones and Thomas Doherty of Gossip Girl, has received its first reviews. The film follows Evie (Emmanuel) and the unintended consequences of her quest for belonging following the death of her mother.

Hugh Skinner, Sean Pertwee, Courtney Taylor, Mr Selfridge’s Alana Boden, and Mr Robot’s Stephanie Corneliussen join the cast of The Invitation.

The Invitation has a Rotten Tomatoes rating of just 33% as of Friday (August 26). Most critics are hesitant to RSVP to The Invitation.

While Variety criticized the “predictability of events during the film’s first hour of gothic-thriller setup [being] much more irritating because of the sluggish pace”, Slashfilm referred to it as a “defanged Dracula update.”

The Invitation is a bloody good time, according to the Av. Club.

“If The Invitation were an actual invitation, the RSVP would mean “regurgitated, silly vampire pap,” Culture Mix said, while Richard Crouse added: “Keeps the horror strictly for those who thought Twilight was the finest vampire film ever.”

The Invitation is a fun and innovative reimagining of a literary classic, while establishing itself as a fun addition to the modern Gothic canon, according to Collider.

The Invitation works very well as a gateway horror film, according to Bloody Disgusting. It’s a well-crafted gothic romance that might familiarize you with the genre.

The Invitation is now available in cinemas.
