Follows the rise of Karl Lagerfeld in the 1970s Parisian fashion world and his rivalry with Yves Saint Laurent’s partner Pierre Berge, as well as his love story with Jacques de Bascher. The new series will premiere on 7 June 2024 exclusively on Disney+ Hotstar.
Becoming Karl Lagerfeld has also released a teaser as well as the show’s plot to further tantalise the audience. The biographical limited series is set in the 1970s and traces Karl’s journey before becoming known for being a Lagerfeld. From revealing the glamorous designers and artists he rubbed shoulders with to exploring who Karl is when alone, the series will offer an unseen view of the man underneath the label.
The series will chart Lagerfeld’s encounter with his long-time romantic partner, the ambitious, troublesome, exciting and dandy Jacques des Bascher, as well as his frenemy bond with the fashion icon Yves Saint Laurent. As Laurent was backed by businessman Pierre Bergé while working at House of Chanel, Lagerfeld had to struggle and suffer multiple setbacks before making it big.
